Seventh phase of panchayat polls underway in J&K

The seventh phase of Panchayat elections is currently underway in eight blocks of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

Srinagar: The seventh phase of Panchayat
elections is currently underway in eight blocks of Jammu and
Kashmir, officials said.

In the Kashmir Valley, votes are being cast in Kralpora
block in Kupwara district and Kunzer block in Baramulla
district of north Kashmir.

In south Kashmir, polling is being held in Shangus block
of Anantnag district, while Narbal block in central Kashmir`s
Budgam district has also gone to the polls on Sunday.

The elections are also underway in four blocks in Jammu
division, the officials said.

The first leg of the 16-phase panchayat polls was held in
eight blocks of the state on April 13.

The elections for the eighth phase will be held on May
12, ninth phase on May 16 and tenth phase on May 21.

The last six phases will be held on May 25, May 29, June
2, June 6, June 11 and June 16.

Panchayat elections are being held in the state after a
gap of 10 years.
