Jammu: Unemployed youth hailing from
financially weaker families in Jammu and Kashmir will get a
special allowance under a scheme from April 1.
During the Question Hour in the Legislative Council,
Labour and Employment minister A G Malik said as many as
5,67,358 educated unemployed youth have registered themselves
with district employment and counselling centres in the state
till December 2009.
The government has introduced Voluntary Service Allowance
(VSA) for unemployed youth hailing from financially weaker
families, he said, adding it will be given to the eligible
ones with effect from April 1, 2010.
Under the VSA, post graduates and above will get Rs 1000
monthly. Rs 750 will be given to graduates and Rs 500 and Rs
300 to twelfth and tenth pass, respectively.
Youths within the age group of 28-37 years will be
benefited under the scheme for a maximum of four years.
Out of this, 3,193 unemployed youths are registered in
Leh district and the highest 62,839 in Srinagar, he said.
