Congress leader demands CBI probe in Nirupama murder case

Congress leader K Keshav Rao on Thursday demanded a CBI probe into the death of Delhi-based journalist Nirupama Pathak.

New Delhi: Congress leader K Keshav Rao
on Thursday demanded a CBI probe into the death of Delhi-based
journalist Nirupama Pathak.

Rao, AICC-incharge of Jharkhand, said that he was
appealing to the state government to take the matter seriously
to ensure that "no mischief is done in the investigation".
"A CBI probe would be advisable since the family
involved is influential," he said.

Pathak, herself a Brahmin, was planning to marry her
batchmate at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication who
belonged to another caste and her family was against it.

She was found dead in her house under mysterious
circumstances on April 29 and her mother Subha, suspected to
have had a hand in her death, was arrested after post-mortem
report confirmed that the scribe had died of asphyxia as a
result of smothering.

Neyaz Ahmed, DGP Jharkhand, recently said that the
investigation of the case so far had supported the murder
theory.
