Shibu Soren to decide on our resignations: JMM MLAs

Three JMM MLAs, who have submitted their resignations to their chief Sibhu Soren in protest against the party`s decision for opting out from Rajya Sabha elections, on Wednesday said it was for him to take a call.

Ranchi: Three JMM MLAs, who have submitted their resignations to their chief Sibhu Soren in protest against the party`s decision for opting out from Rajya Sabha elections, on Wednesday said it was for him to take a call.
"We have given the resignation letters to our party president. He has to take a decision on it," said Mathura Prasad Mahato, an MLA from Tundi constituency and a former minister.

Jagannath Mahato and Vidyoot Baran Mahato were the other two MLAs, who have submitted their resignation letters to Soren after the party backed out from fielding Savita Mahato in the Rajya Sabha polls as it did not have the numbers.

Savita, widow of former deputy Chief Minister Sudhir Mahato who passed away on January 20 following a severe heart attack, was earlier confirmed by the party as their candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.

"We felt insulted after the party changed its decision after announcing her name for the polls. She comes from the family of Nirmal Mahato, who sacrificed his life for the cause of Jharkhand," he added.
Nirmal Mahato, who was the elder brother of late Sudhir Mahato, was shot dead by assailants around 26 years ago in Jamshedpur.

Mathura also criticised Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantric) president and former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi`s reported statement that his JVM would have supported Savita Mahato had the JMM approached them.

Meanwhile, sources in the state Assembly said that the nomination papers of sitting Rajya Sabha member Parimal Nathwani and RJD leader Prem Chand Gupta who had filed their nominations yesterday was found valid after the scrutiny today.
