Guwahati: An Assamese youth appearing for CAT examination has gone missing from Bangalore under mysterious circumstances.

The boy, Joydeep Paul (23), went missing on November 10 from a private accommodation `Om Sri Ram PG`, where he was staying for preparation in the prestigious management examination.

A resident of Karimganj in Assam, his father Vivekananda Paul told a news agency, "The owner of the hostel saw him last during the evening of November 10. After that neither we nor anyone in the hostel got any communication from Joydeep."

The parents, who are at present camping in Bangalore, had last spoken to their son three days prior to his missing.

"We do not know whether it is a case of kidnapping or escape (by the concerned). He had in fact asked for Rs 10,000 during our last communication and we sent that money. However, he did not withdraw it from the bank," the father said.

Joydeep had completed his BTech from the National Institute of Technology in Tiruchirappalli in 2011.

After that he was staying in Chennai to take private coaching for CAT entrance examination. He had appeared for it in 2012 from Chennai, but did not qualify.

"He then came to Bangalore in June to appear for the CAT test from here. We now do not know whether he appeared for the exam this time," the father said.

A police complaint has been filed by the parents. The youth remained untraced for the last 17 days.
