Bangalore: Opposition Congress on Tuesday demanded that Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, immediately convene an emergent assembly session to debate the Lokayukta report on illegal mining.
A Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting here discussed the emergent political situation in the wake of submission of Lokayukta report on illegal mining and resolved to urge the government to summon the legislature session.
The meeting demanded that recommendations of the report, which indicted former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, four ministers and 787 officials, be implemented and losses caused by them to the exchequer recovered.
Opposition leader Siddaramaiah said, the report has estimated losses at about Rs 20,000 crore and that the Central Empowered Committee`s report has suggested recovery of losses fivefold, implying that at least Rs one lakh crore has to be recovered.
He said, Karnataka could be free of its debt burden of Rs 93,000 crore, if the government recovered Rs one lakh crore from those indicted in the Lokayukta report.
