Bangalore: A local court in Bagalkot district Wednesday sentenced a Second Division Surveyor of Taluk office, Mudhol to two years simple imprisonment with a fine of Rs 2,000 for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1,600 from a complainant for an official favour.
The accused, Mallikarjuna Holabasappa Julphi, was convicted by the District Sessions Court and Special Court, Bagalkot district for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1,600 from one Ashok K Tulali, Mudhol for issuing the survey sketch of his lands, a lokayukta release said.
In case of default, the accused has to undergo simple imprisonment for three months for the proven offence under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.
The accused was further sentenced undergo two years of simple imprisonment and to pay a fine of Rs 2,000, in default to pay the fine, to undergo simple imprisonment for three months for the proven offence under section 13(1)(d) r/w 13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Both sentences will run concurrently.
