Kozhikode: Eight shops were gutted and goods worth over Rs 25 lakh destroyed in a fire that broke out in the busy Sweet Meet Street in the heart of the city early Thursday, police said.
The fire, which broke out at about 0445 hrs, was put out after a three-hour battle, fire force sources said.
There were no casualties.
Top officials including Kozhikode District Collector, Dr P B Salim and Kozhikode Police Commissioner P Vijayan visited the area.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire, they said.
