Kerala Inland Vessels Act to be implemented soon

With a view to strictly implement the security measures of Boat services in the state, Kerala Inland Vessels Act-2010 would be implemented from September 15, State Minister for Ports V Surendran Pilla said on Saturday.

Thiruvananthapuram: With a view to strictly
implement the security measures of Boat services in the state,
Kerala Inland Vessels Act-2010 would be implemented from
September 15, State Minister for Ports V Surendran Pilla said
on Saturday.

Though state announced the new Act way back in April in
the wake of Thekkady Tourist Boat tragedy that claimed more
than 40 lives, it could not put into practice due to various
reasons, Pilla said at a meeting of port officiasl here.

Pilla instructed the port authorities to take steps to
implement the Act from September 15.

Ensure the safety of existing boats, safety measures to be
taken while building new boats, safety of passengers inside
the boat, facility to provide tickets to passengers and
registeration of boats were some of the important features in
in the Act, an official release said.
