SI shot dead by accused in woman harassment case

official went to his house for the execution of a warrant,

Police said the incident occurred when Vijayakrishnan (53)
went to the house of Mujib Rehman at Chokkadu near Kalikavu,
about 45 km from here, along with a team to execute the
warrant, issued by a family court, in the district.

Mujib after committing the crime, escaped to the nearby
forest area, they said.

Though Vijayakrishnan was taken to a nearby hospial, he
breathed his last before reaching there, police said.

Meanwhile, Kerala Home Minister, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan,
expressing sorrow over the death of the SI, said the incident
was `serious` and the search for the accused was on.

Orders have already been given to take follow up action in
connection with the incident, the minister said.

Balakrishnan said government would provide all help to the
family of the Sub-Inspector.

Director General of Police Jacob Punnoose said that all
effort will be made to nab the culprit will be nabbed with the
help of the people.

Though our job is a risky one, this was the first time that
such an incident had taken place, he said, adding the morale
of the police is always high as we always get the support of
the people.

The preliminary report had said that the accused had used
a country made pistol, but only the post mortem will confirm
it, he said.

He is survived by wife and two children.
