Thiruvananthapuram: Congress led UDF opposition
members in Kerala Wednesday walked out from the Assembly over
alleged irregularities in the voters list published and in
the de-limitation of wards for the coming local bodies
election in the state.

Seeking to move an adjournment motion on the matter, V D
Sateeshan (Cong) alleged that LDF government was trying to
`sabotage the poll by making the State Election Commission a
mute witness.`

The voters list published on July 1 was full of mistakes
and voter were not given enough time to rectify it, he
said.

Denying the opposition charge, Minister for Local
Administration Paloli Muhammedkutty said there was no
substance in the notice for adjournment motion. `It is a
notice for the sake of notice`, he said.

Complaints of ommission of names from voters list and
anomalies in ward delimitation was a common feature, he said.

Appropriate mechanismn to rectify the anomalies has been
put in place as per the rule, he pointed out. Opposition
charge was baseless, he added.

Speaker K Radhakrishnan denied leave for the motion after
the reply of the minister.

Before walking out, opposition leader Oommen Chandy said
that LDF government had politicised the State Election
Commission. Deliberate attempt had been made to deny votes to
UDF sympathisers in many parts of the state by omitting names
of persons from voters list, he alleged.
