Water released in Kalingarayan canal

Usually water would be let out from June 1, but this year it was delayed due to developmental works undertaken in the canal at a cost of Rs 50 crore, sources said.

As per instructions of the Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, water has been released from the Bhavani river to the Kalingarayan canal, officials said.
Earlier water was released from the Lower Bhavani Project Reservoir into the Bhavani.

Public Works Minister K. V. Ramalingam, Revenue Minister Thoppu N.D. Venkatachalam, Dairy Development Minister Murthy, District Collector V.K. Shanmugam were among those present at the function.
Meanwhile in the Lower Bhavani project reservoir, the water level stood at 84 feet against the full level of 105 feet. Lower Bhavani project farmers appealed to the Government to release water as per schedule for irrigation in the LBP canal from August 15.
