26 districts in MP get deficient rainfall

As many as 26 out of 50 districts in Madhya Pradesh received deficient rainfall and only one big dam in the state had full water levels in this monsoon so far, Meteorological Department officials said here on Sunday.

Bhopal: As many as 26 out of 50 districts
in Madhya Pradesh received deficient rainfall and only one big
dam in the state had full water levels in this monsoon so far,
Meteorological Department officials said here on Sunday.

"Thirteen districts are facing over 30 per cent
deficiency of rainfall while another 13 districts recorded
less than 30 per cent less rainfall so far in this monsoon
which normally ends in the first fortnight of September in
Madhya Pradesh," they said.

Tikamgarh is the maximum rain deficient district in
the state as 62 per cent less than the usual rainfall was
recorded there till yesterday followed by Katni (52 per cent)
and Rewa (51 per cent), they said.

Only Burhanpur and Badwani got more than normal
rainfall, they said, adding 22 districts received normal
rainfall during this monsoon so far, they added.

Only one out of the 12 big dams in Madhya Pradesh has
reached to its water level of upto 100 per cent in this
monsoon.

On August 16, 1320 cusec water was released from
Sanjay Sarovar Dam, built on Wain Ganga river at Chhapra in
Seoni district, they said adding that the Full Reservoir Level
(FRL) of it is 519.38 meter.

Met officials said that though more than half of the
districts in Madhya Pradesh were facing bad conditions due to
shortage of rainfall, nothing could be said conclusively
before September 10 as there are always chances of good rains
before that.

Even now one system is in process of developing in Bay
of Bengal and might cause rains in many parts of the State
next week, they said.

Besides, moderate rains will continue in most parts of
the state under influence of a weak circulation system, they
said.

However, deficient rainfall might cause a worrying
situation in the State as there remain only 19 days for this
monsoon to end, they added.
