Bhopal: A 34-year-old man slit the throat of his US-settled younger sister, who was on a visit here, as he was jealous of her prosperity, police said Wednesday.

Dinesh Yadav, a class 12 passout, was resentful of the fact that he was a small-time shopkeeper while his younger sister, Shobhana Gomtiwala, was a software engineer in the US, a police officer said.

According to police, Shobhana and her husband Kapil came here in January to renew their visas.

She had been staying with her parents here, while Kapil was away in Bangalore.

On Tuesday, while Shobhana was working in the kitchen, her brother hit her on the head with a bat and stabbed her in the back before slitting her throat. No one else was present at the home, located in Saket Nagar, during the murder.

Dinesh, son of a retired government employee, is absconding, police said.

Both of Dinesh`s sisters - Shobhana and Bharti - are software engineers and married. Bharti is settled in Bangalore, while Shobhana lives in the US, Superintendent of Police Sarika Shukla told reporters.
