Chouhan to hold 1-day fast against fertiliser prices

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Wednesday said he will undertake a 24-hour fast on June 15 to protest the steep hike in prices of fertilisers and demanded its immediate roll-back.

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Wednesday said he will undertake a 24-hour fast on June 15 to protest the steep hike in prices of fertilisers and demanded its immediate roll-back.

During the last one year, prices of all types of fertilisers had gone up by more than two times. "The hike in fertiliser prices has broken the back bone of farmers who will now find it tough to survive and indulge in agriculture," Chouhan told mediapersons here.

He said he will call off the fast only if fertiliser prices were rolled back before June 15.
He said his government had three main demands, which it wanted the Centre to accept at the earliest.

The Centre should roll back fertiliser prices, prepare an effective fertiliser policy and ensure that the quantity of fertiliser which is allotted to any state, actually reaches it, the Chief Minister said.
He said fasts would be observed on June 15 at all district headquarters and state ministers, MLAs and party office-bearers would participate in it.
