Probe in eight cases of alleged irregularities against former and present Madhya Pradesh ministers were closed by state Lokayukta before recent assembly elections.

Bhopal: Probe in eight cases of alleged irregularities against former and present Madhya Pradesh ministers were closed by state Lokayukta before recent assembly elections.

The Lokayukta has closed investigation in a case against Ajay Vishnoi, former Health and Education Minister, and Jayant Mallaya, Minister for Water Resources, Finance and Commercial Taxes, Planning, Economics and Statistics in June, last year, according to information received by activist Ajay Dubey exercising his Right to Information.

Investigation in complaint of alleged irregularities against Kamal Patel, former Revenue Minister, and others was closed by Lokayukta on August 30, 2013, the RTI reply said.

Probe in a complaint of alleged irregularities against Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and former Minister Vishnoi was closed one year ago by Lokayukta, it said.

The investigation in an alleged case of irregularities involving former Mayor of Indore and Urban Administration and Housing-Environment Minister Kailash Vijaywargiya has been closed by Lokayukta on August 29 last year, the reply said.

Dubey had sought information on the status of cases registered by Lokayukta against former Madhya Pradesh ministers.

The assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh were held on November 25.

Replying to RTI query, the Lokayukta, an independent body to probe corruption cases, said cases allegedly involving Babulal Gaur, Home and Jail Minister, Laxmikant Sharma, former Minister for Minerals, Archana Chitnis, former Education Minister and Jayant Mallaya (another case) were under its consideration.
Probe in another case allegedly involving Sharma was closed after examination by Lokayukta on December 1, 2010, it said.
"Most of the cases were closed before assembly elections. We want that the investigation should be re-opened. Also, investigation in all pending corruption cases being probed by the Lokayukta must be speeded up. We want that MP government should adopt the new Lokpal Act which will strengthen the organisation," said Dubey, a member of Transparency International (TI).
