New Delhi: Concerned over the inordinate
delay in passing of an anti-corruption bill, Madhya Pradesh
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday met President
Pratibha Patil for her nod which will empower the state to
confiscate properties of corrupt public servants.
State government officials said that Patil has agreed to
provide assent to the bill once it comes before her.
Taking a strong initiative to fight corruption, the State
Assembly had passed `Madhya Pradesh Vishesh Nyayalaya
Vidheyak, 2011` and sent to Union Home Ministry on April 13,
this year for approval of the president after which it will
become a law.
The bill provides for expeditious disposal of cases under
Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Chouhan said that the bill, if passed, mandates the state
government to seize properties of government employees and use
them for people`s welfare.
He said the Madhya Pradesh government is taking several
steps to uproot corruption and bring in transparency.
"We are also working to develop a legal framework to
ensure speedy and time bound settlement of corruption related
cases. The bill will act as a strong deterrent to remove
corruption involving government officials dealing with public
works," the chief minister said.
He urged the president to grant approval to the bill and
give country a positive sign especially at the time when an
anti-corruption movement is going on.
