Ashapuri: The Madhya Pradesh
Archaeological Department has begun restoration work at the
ruins of Bhootnath temples which were recently discovered near
Ashapuri village in Raisen district.
"Located nearly seven kms from Bhojpur`s Shiva Temple
near Bhopal, ruins of Bhootnath temples were found recently,"
State`s Culture and Public Relations Minister, Laxmikant
Sharma told reporters.
The temples date back to the period from eight to 13th
century of Pratihar and Parmar eras, he said.
"The Archaeological Department has already commenced
restoration work at these temples and the government will
spend nearly Rs 4-5 crore on the project," the Minister said
adding the work is expected to be over in two years.
Besides idols of Lord Brahma, Nravrah, Narsingh, Vishnu,
Surya, Ganesh, Uma-Maheshwar, Natraj, Sadashiv, Krishna,
Mahishasurmardini, ruins of a pond were also recovered during
the excavation work, he said.
The architecture of these temples suggest that they were
developed like Khajuraho and Batesar of central India`s
medieval period, he added.
