Akola PO clerk gets seven-year jail for fruad

A Post office clerk was sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment by a Akola court in a fraud case.

Nagpur: A Post office clerk was sentenced to
seven years rigorous imprisonment by a Akola court in a fraud case.
S A Shende, an upper divison clerk in the Head Post
Office in Akola had conspired with his brother and friends,
cheating the Postal Department of Rs 13 lakhs by making false
deposit entries in ledger cards of his SB account and
fradulent withdrawls.

Shende thus defrauded Rs 3 lakhs in 1982 and purchased
property. Then between 1984 and 1985 he again embezzled around
Rs 10 lakh.

The CBI Nagpur unit investigated the case and registered
offences under relevant seciton of IPC.

Special Judge N B Deshmukh, First Additional District
Judge of Akola found Shende guilty and sentenced him to RI for
seven years and also imposed a fine of Rs two lakh in default
of which, he will have to serve another one and half years of
RI.
