Cable operators, pubs to attract entertainment tax in Maha

Maharashtra Legislative Assembly today passed the Mumbai Entertainment Tax (Amendment) Bill 2010 which will enable the state government to impose the tax on cable operators, pubs and get an additional revenue of Rs ten cr.

So far, there was no provision to tax cable operators,
Internet Protocol TV, permit room, pubs, orchestra, Revenue
Minister Narayan Rane said.

The entertainment tax will be levied as per the existing
rates.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Special Economic Zones and
Designated Areas Act 2010 will now be taken up in the next
session of the assembly in Nagpur.

BJP member Devendra Phadnvis argued that the bill needs
elaborate discussions and should be taken up in the next
session which was agreed to by the Industries Minister
Rajendra Darda.
