Mumbai: The Maharashtra ATS on Tuesday sealed an
apartment at Byculla in south Mumbai where three suspects of
last year`s triple blasts including Yasin Bhatkal, a key
Indian Mujahideen operative, had reportedly lived for a few
months before escaping.
According to sources in the Anti-Terrorism Squad, a
computer and some CDs have been seized from the Habib Building
quarters occupied by the trio.
"The house had not been sealed in the hope that one of the
suspects or somebody who knows them would come to collect
their belongings. Since it is public knowledge now, we decided
to seal it," an ATS official said.
According to Waqar Quereshi, who stays near Habib
Building, three persons introducing themselves as Imran,
Tarbez and Waqqas had rented the premises about eight months
ago and stayed there till the last week of December.
"Sultan Khan, a real estate broker, had introduced the
three to Rubina, the widow who owns the flat on the third
floor. The three claimed that they were call centre employees
and belonged to Bihar," Quereshi said.
"However, in December, they left the house and never
returned," he said, adding ATS personnel came this morning and
took away some of their possessions.
According to media reports, Imran is believed to be Yasin
Bhatkal, the fugitive IM operative suspected to have
masterminded the Mumbai blasts and the Delhi High Court blast
last year. His two companions are said to be Pakistani
nationals allegedly sent to India to carry out the serial
blasts at Zaveri Bazaar, Opera House and Dadar on July 13 last
year that claimed 27 lives.
