Mumbai: Maharashtra Labour Welfare
Commissioner Mohan Dhotre was on Wednesday suspended and a
departmental inquiry has been instituted into allegations
of financial misappropriation against him.

"Dhotre has been suspended and a departmental inquiry
instituted into allegations of financial misappropriation
against him," Minister of State for Labour Padmakar Walvi said here.

"I have issued the suspension orders of Dhotre in my
capacity as chairman of the State Labour Welfare Board," the
minister said.

"There were a spate of allegations against Dhotre and
a series of stories about the same in media. We have taken a
serious note of the allegations," the minister said.

Dhotre is no stranger to controversy. In 2002, Pradnya
Mhatre, a junior clerk with the Maharashtra Labour Welfare
Board Commission, had accused Dhotre of grabbing her hand and
demanding sexual favours in return for a promotion.

She claimed that the incident happened when she was
working alone in the office on November 21, 2002. Dhotre, who
was arrested and later released on bail, however claimed that
Mhatre`s charges were prompted by his refusal to promote her
two years prior to the alleged incident.
