Planning Commission considering Maha govt`s request on Kumbha

The Planning Commission is considering a request for assistance from the Maharashtra Government with regard to the Kumbh Mela being organised in Nashik district next year, the Lok Sabha was informed Tuesday.

New Delhi: The Planning Commission is considering a request for assistance from the Maharashtra Government with regard to the Kumbh Mela being organised in Nashik district next year, the Lok Sabha was informed Tuesday.

In a written reply, Minister of State for Culture and Tourism Shripad Naik said, the Planning Commission has informed that the organising of `Fair` was a State subject.
The Planning Commission has said they have received a request for assistance from the Government of Maharashtra.

"While making this request the State Government has informed that it has drawn a Master Plan of Rs 2,379 crore for this proposal," he added.

Stating that the Planning Commission has informed that the request of the Maharashtra Government was presently under its (Planning Commission) consideration, the Minister said, adding that such assistance have been determined on the basis of overall availability of resources.

Naik was replying to a question on whether the Government has proposed to allocate funds for organising Kumbh Mela at Nashik in 2015.
