Sena candidate wins BMC by-poll

Shiv Sena candidate Rajan Padhey won the Goregaon civic by-election, defeating Shrikala Pillai of Congress by 2,032 votes.

won the Goregaon civic by-election, defeating Shrikala Pillai
of Congress by 2,032 votes.

Rajan Padhey polled 6,379 votes in the by-election
while Pillai got 4,347 votes in ward number 50. Around 38 per
cent voters exercised their franchise in the by-poll, held
Sunday.

The by-poll was necessitated after the death of
Congress corporator R R Pillai six months ago.

With this win, Sena`s strength in the 227-member BMC
has gone up to 82.
