New Delhi: A woman witness, who lost five of
her family members in 1984 anti-Sikh riots, today denied
before a Delhi court trying Congress leader Sajjan Kumar that
she had registered the case at the instance of any
organisation or person.
"I do not know if the Citizen Justice Committee people had
come at Moti Bagh Gurudwara because many people used to come
there. It is correct that many people used to come to share
our grief and to inquire about our sufferings. Chandra Shekhar
(former Prime Minister) also came to meet me," Jagdish Kaur
told Additional Sessions Judge Sunita Gupta.
During her cross examination by counsel A K Sharma,
appearing on behalf of the accused, the 69-year-old witness,
however, admitted the members from Gurudwara Management
Committee had inquired from her about the incident.
"However, it is incorrect to suggest that I told them that
I had not witnessed any occurrence and therefore I cannot name
anyone. I had given given names to everybody. I cannot tell if
action was taken on the statement of those persons... as I had
gone to Punjab," Kaur, who now resides in Amritsar, claimed.
The court is conducting the trial against Kumar and others
on a day-to-day basis.
Kaur had on July 3 identified Kumar and his nephew
Khokkar, and other accused Girdhari Lal and Captain Bhagmal as
accomplices who had allegedly instigated mobs during the 1984
carnage.
Kaur`s family members, including her husband and son, were
killed in the riots that had followed the assassination of
Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984.
CBI had filed two chargesheets against Kumar and others on
January 13 in the riots cases registered in 2005 on the
recommendation of Justice G T Nanavati Commission which
inquired into the sequence of events leading to the riots.
