A new blogger in town - Amar Singh

Taking a cue from friend, actor Amitabh Bachchan, Amar Singh has launched his blog.

New Delhi: Politicians better watch out. Amar Singh, general secretary of the Samajwadi Party, is discovering new ways to be heard, err, read. Besides his ‘at-the-drop-of-a-hat’ media briefings, Singh has unleashed himself on blogspace, reports DNA.

Taking a cue from friend, actor Amitabh Bachchan, Amar Singh has launched his blog. Bachchan, who has been a regular blogger for more than a year, recently introduced his followers to Singh’s blog.

“My friend and member of my immediate family, my younger brother Shri Amar Singhji, MP from Uttar Pradesh, on my instigation has started his blog. Do visit and say what you feel about it,’’ Amitabh posted on his blog bigb.bigadda.com.

Though the immediate fan following that Bachchan received for his blog may have so far evaded Singh, the maverick politician is receiving his fair share of bouquets and brickbats.

Since December 19, when Singh started blogging, he has received almost 279 reader comments for his nine posts, with the site receiving almost 50,000 hits. The parliamentarian’s post on “Why did Ruchika have to die?” has so far received the maximum comments (70).

“In case you as a leader want to prove a point why don’t you act upon the issue rather than just making it an issue? We don’t need gyan... we need action,” (sic) said a comment by Bhavik.

Unlike “elder brother” Amitji, Singh doesn’t quite reply to comments individually but posts a collective response as another blog entry, acknowledging the criticism. He is sometimes self-deprecating.
