Jammu: Maintaining that militants were waiting to infiltrate into this side of the Line of Control (LoC), a senior army official Tuesday said the security forces will ensure that the situation remains under control.

"We will continue with strong resolve to ensure that the security situation remains totally under control and people are able to carry on with their daily routine without any
fear," General Officer Commanding (GOC), 16 Corps, Lt Gen Rameshwar Roy said.

"The army is fully prepared to tackle any situation along the LoC or elsewhere in the state. Please be assured," he told reporters soon after the conclusion of a function in
connection with the 38th Raising Day of the White Knight (16th) Corps here.

"There is nothing new in the militants` resolve to infiltrate into this side of the LoC," he said in response to a question on the statement issued by the supreme commander of
Hizbul Mujahideen Syed Salahuddin that attempts would be made to increase militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Apart from the increased pressure on militants to say that they want to infiltrate, there is nothing new in such statements. They can continue their attempts, but they will
not succeed," he said.

Speaking about local people being recruited by militant outfits, he said: "The terror outfits have made bids to undertake recruitments from the public in the past also. But
with support of people we have been able to retrieve these locals taken by militants as recruits."

Talking about the killing of HM commander Chota Bashir by his associate near here yesterday, the Lt General said this points to the growing rivalry over leadership among the militants.
"Earlier there used to be inter-group rivalry. Now there is growing rivalry within the outfit itself. The militants are insecure and there appears to be some kind of fight for
leadership.

They have started killing within their organizations itself. It is a good thing that they have started the beginning of their end," he said.

He also said there are reports of extortion by them and they are fighting for the domination of particular areas resulting in rivalry.
To a question on security for the forthcoming Amarnath yatra, he said "don`t worry, we are prepared."
