New Delhi: Bimal Julka, an IAS officer of 1979 batch of Madhya Pradesh cadre, will be the next Information and Broadcasting Secretary succeeding Uday Kumar Varma who retires in June.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Julka, at present Special Secretary and Financial Advisor in the Ministry of External Affairs, as Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, an official announcement said on Friday.
He had worked earlier in various other ministries like Civil Aviation, Defence, Finance and Human Resource Development apart from holding positions in Madhya Pradesh government.
An important task that awaits the new Secretary is I&B ministry`s drive towards digitisation of cable sector which has reached the Phase III. The ministry intends to completely digitise the cable sector in the country by the end of 2014.
