BJP slams govt for orders on Army Chief age row

BJP on Monday slammed the government for issuing fresh directions to reconcile Army Chief Gen V K Singh`s age in official records.

New Delhi: BJP on Monday slammed the government
for issuing fresh directions to reconcile Army Chief Gen V K
Singh`s age in official records and said it must respect that
the matter is sub-judice.

"Even if the matter is sub-judice, we have reports that
the government has issued another letter asking for
reconciliation of the age in all the records of the
government. The matter is sub-judice. All of us respect it, so
should the government," said BJP spokesperson Nirmala
Sitharaman.

The BJP leader said by issuing fresh orders at this time
when the matter was before the court, it raised more questions
than answers.

"At this time issuing orders for reconciliation of age
raises more questions than answers. We think the government
should really look at institutions and strengthening them
rather than diluting them," she said.

Attacking the government on the age controversy, she said,
"due to lack of statesmanship and leadership in UPA, matters
which have to be handled with great sensitivity are being very
carelessly handled, as a result of which you have institutions
suffering."

She said, "If only the UPA had handled it with a great
degree of sensitivity, a 4-star general didn`t have to go and
seek redressal from the court."

She also cited the case of CVC appointment when the
government did not heed the advice of the Leader of Opposition
and when the matter went to court it had to face flak.
