New Delhi: In an exercise being undertaken
after nearly two decades, top leaders of CPI(M) on Monday discussed a draft to contemporise its ideological approach in
"changed times" following the serious electoral debacle in
strongholds.
Senior West Bengal leader and former chief minister
Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee skipped the crucial meeting of the
CPI(M) politburo once again with state secretary Biman Bose
attributing his absence to pulmonary ailments.
Senior politburo member Sitaram Yechury presented the
draft in the meeting on which members began discussions,
sources said.
After the politburo finalises the draft, sources said,
it will be presented before the central committee for a
detailed discussions. The central committee will then
deliberate on the document.
A fresh political-ideological document would be drafted
for adoption at the 20th Party Congress scheduled next year.
This would be a repeat of the exercise which it undertook 19
years ago at the 14th Congress after the collapse of USSR.
Yechury said the politburo is undertaking the exercise
of preparing a draft ideological approach so as to keep pace
with the changing times. The CPI(M) had adopted a new
ideological approach in 1992 Party Congress after the collapse
of USSR.
"In the past 20 years, the world has changed a lot. We
have gone through globalisation and liberalisation," Yechury
told reporters here.
