Ralegan Siddhi: In the wake of corruption allegations against his team members, social activist Anna Hazare on Monday hit back at the critics saying those opposed to the Jan Lokpal Bill were behind the accusations.

Writing in his blog, Hazare said, “To accuse and humiliate seems to be the mantra of the few.”

Saying wrong allegations were being levelled against Team Anna members, Hazare wrote the ‘gang of four’ was behind the move. The Gandhian was making an indirect reference to some high-profile ministers in the UPA government.

Hazare’s remarks came in the wake of Team Anna members Arvind Kejriwal and Kiran Bedi being accused of involvement in corruption.

While Swami Agnivesh, an erstwhile member of Team Anna, accused Kejriwal of siphoning off funds collected for the anti-corruption movement, Kiran Bedi was accused of overcharging organisations by submitting inflated travel bills.

Hazare defended Bedi today saying she has time and again made it clear that she had not done it for personal gain but was trying to save money for her NGO.

“This is not the first time that such accusations have been levelled against Kiran Bedi. Every member of ‘Team Anna’ had to face accusations and character assassination by the ‘gang of four’. Who are these people? Those are the very same people who are not in favor of Jan Lokpal Bill,” Hazare wrote.

Hazare further said he would be “writing a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that the draft for the Jan Lokpal Bill to be passed should be put on the Internet so that people can have a look at it and not limit it to the (Parliamentary) Joint Committee.”
