German embassy holding concert in aid of flood-hit Kashmir

The German embassy is organising a concert on Tuesday of Kashmiri music featuring noted santoor player Pandit Bhajan Sopori and his son Abhay in aid of Jammu and Kashmir, which has been hit by devastating floods.

New Delhi: The German embassy is organising a concert on Tuesday of Kashmiri music featuring noted santoor player Pandit Bhajan Sopori and his son Abhay in aid of Jammu and Kashmir, which has been hit by devastating floods.

The concert, titled "Ehsaas-e-Kashmir" is being held "to show solidarity and mobilise support for Kashmiris in need", a press release from the German embassy here had said on Monday.

The concert will be held in the garden of residence of Ambassador Michael Steiner at 6 pm.

The envoy said he has set a target of mobilising Rs 1 crore for helping the state cope with the floods.

"The German embassy is working with experienced and reliable aid organisations in Kashmir. Two weeks ago, Ambassador Steiner announced the first German aid project for Kashmir with a local hospital in the disaster-struck region. The embassy has made available Rs 25 lakh for basic health care in cooperation with the NGO German Doctors."
