I felt uncomfortable in being branded `liar` by Mamata: Deb

Kolkata: With Trinamool Congress chief Mamata
Banerjee allegedly calling him a "liar" over an invitation to
be present at the handing over ceremony of flats on the city
outskirts, West Bengal Housing Minister Gautam Deb today said
the remark had left him "uncomfortable".

Recalling that he had earlier spoken to Banerjee with a
request to intervene in opposition by TC workers to putting
up poles for the ceremony at New Town here, Deb said "I
convinced her about the project and she asked me to send her a
written invitation."

"Instead of keeping her promise of contacting local
panchayat leaders, she preferred to dub me a liar while
talking to a daily. This puts me in an uncomfortable
situation."

He told reporters that his private secretary had thrice
contacted Banerjee`s secretary with the invitation and it was
not clear why she had not responded to his offer.

"I shot off a 13-page letter to Mamata Banerjee to be
personally present at the housing programme. It is unusual
that I was not be able to get in touch with the Railway
Minister, whose party is the main opposition party in the
state and secured a large number of votes in the last
elections.

"I would like to tell you that when Mamata Banerjee
announced a major Metro Railway extension project, everybody
supported it and cooperated accordingly," Deb said.
