Itanagar: India and China have set aside
the border row and are coming closer to improve bilateral
trade relations, senior NCP leader P A Sangma said here on Wednesday.

Claiming that there was no reason for anticipating any
threat from China, Sangma said, "New Delhi and Beijing are
coming closer and improving bilateral trade relations setting
aside the border row".

"If they had real interest in Arunachal they would not
have withdrawn after marching up to Tezpur in Assam in the
1962 war," he told a press conference here.

"I have no apprehension on that count," he added.

He said that reports on Chinese incursions and its
alleged motive to encircle India to detach the North East from
the mainland, linked through the 26-km Chicken`s Neck area in
Siliguri, are all "speculative" and just a "media hype".

Claiming that the `real danger` was posed by illegal
migration from Bangladesh, which was leading to the demography
of the region changing fast, Sangma said that the Unique
National Identity Card to be introduced next year would go a
long way in tackling the problem.
