An Indian-origin man accused of the murder of a British Sikh during a street clash over 17 years ago will go on trial later this year.

London: An Indian-origin man accused of the murder of a British Sikh during a street clash over 17 years ago will go on trial later this year.

Kiranjit Uppal, 36, was arrested at Heathrow Airport as he arrived on a plane from India in September last year.
Uppal is accused of killing Harminder Singh Jhaghra during a street altercation in Hayes, south-west London, in February 1996.

He denied the murder charge and causing grievous bodily harm when he allegedly stabbed Jhaghra in the arm.
Uppal is due to stand trial at the Old Bailey?court in London in September?this year.

The 28-year-old victim had suffered a stab wound to the arm but managed to flag down a passing motorist to take him to safety at a nearby petrol station.

He was then taken to hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead. A post-mortem found the knife had severed an artery in his arm.

Detectives arrested several people in connection with the incident but all others were released with no further action.
