Jan 26 parade: Students to showcase colourful art forms

A total of around 700 schoolchildren from different parts of the country will be showcasing a variety of cultural items.

New Delhi: A total of around 700 schoolchildren from different parts of the country will be showcasing a variety of cultural items in this year`s Republic Day Parade.

Among them around 550 students are from Delhi.

Two schools from the Directorate of Education, Delhi Government, one school from Kendriya Vidyalay Sangathan and one item from Eastern Zone Cultural Centre, Kolkata are presenting the colourful dances.

The Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, Kolkata this year features Purulia Chhau. The Chhau Dance of Purulia district is one of the most vibrant and colourful art forms.

Emerging from martial practice, the Purulia Chhau is a vigorous form of dance drama that draws its themes from the two great Indian epics, The Ramayana and the Mahabharata.

Children from Kendriya Vidyalaya Sadiq Nagar, New Delhi, are presenting a colourful dance item depicting Environment, Conservation and sustainable growth.

The children try to depict the major concern facing the world today is to adopt a sustainable model of growth which ensure economic progress without endangering our environment.

LK International School Bawana, is presenting "Gangaur". It symbolises feminity. The people of Rajasthan assume ``woman`` as the symbolic of eternal might known as Shakti. It basically gives great honour to feminity.

Students of Government Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, Amalwas, Delhi presents one of the most popular folk dances of Western Odisha.

The dance form is known as Dalkhai because in the beginning and end of every stanza the word is used as an address to a girlfriend. While dancing they place the legs together and bend the knees.
