Malaysia expecting 6.5 lakh tourists from India in 2010

Malaysia has set a target of 6.5 lakh visitors from India in 2010 representing a growth of 10 per cent over 2009, director general of Malaysia Tourism, Dato Mirza Mohammad Taiyab Beg said here today.

10 per cent over 2009, director general of Malaysia Tourism,
Dato Mirza Mohammad Taiyab Beg said here today.

"Indian market has been truly inspirational, more than
living up to its reputation," Taiyab said, adding that number
of visitors from India has grown to 5.89 lakh in 2009 from
mere 1.32 lakh in 2000.

"This is an annual growth rate of 25 per cent each
year for a decade which is a remarkable performance. India
ranks fifth among the countries from where tourists visit
Malaysia," the director general said.

"Given the robust growth of Malaysia as a destination,
and the continued prospects of India as a source market,
Tourism Malaysia has set a target of attracting 6.5 lakh
tourists from India in 2010 " Taiyab said.

He said that out of the total global receipts of 53.36
billion Malaysian Ringgit (Rs 725.24 billion) in 2009 India
contributed 1.601 billion Malaysian Ringgit (Rs 21.77
billion).

Taiyab was here with a 40 member delegation to promote
various tourist destinations in Malaysia for the forthcoming
summer vacations.
