Guwahati: The idea of master plan to
develop tourism in the North East was mooted by Union DONER
Minister Bijoy Krishna Handique today.
Addressing the 58th meeting of the North Eastern
Council (NEC), the region`s apex funding authority here,
Handique said the master plan will include all the N E states
and stressed the need to implement time-bound projects aimed
at developing the tourism sector.
The plan would also ensure that there is no
discrimination of NEC funds among the sister states.
Reviewing the functioning of the NEC, Handique said
efforts are being made to develop trade ties with neighbouring
countries, including Bangladesh, through waterways.
Adressing the meeting, Assam Chief Minister Tarun
Gogoi urged NEC to concentrate on improving connectivity in
the region as it was severely lacking in the sector.
Chief Ministers and senior officials of the N E states
participated in the meeting.
