New Delhi: The Centre today informed the Supreme Court that Ministry of Home Affairs will look into the issue of tightening the process of verification for providing pre-paid and post-paid connections by mobile phone operators.
"The Ministry of Home Affairs will look into it," Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium told a Bench comprising Chief Justice S H Kapadia and Justices K S Radhakrishnan and
Swatanter Kumar.
The assurance by the Solicitor General came during the hearing of a PIL seeking a direction for strictly following the verification of consumers before prividing connections for mobile phones.
The petition filed by one Avishek Goenka, through advocate Manish Kumar Saran, also sought laying down of guidelines for providing pre-paid and post-paid connections.
The petition claimed the verification process was like a lip-service in case of pre-paid connection and though some degree of precaution is taken in case of post-paid connection, it was not sufficient.
