New Zealand PM arrives on four-day visit

New Zealand Prime Minister John Key arrived here Sunday night on a four-day visit during which he will hold talks with his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh.



New Delhi: New Zealand Prime Minister John Key arrived here Sunday night on a four-day visit during which he will hold talks with his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh on a free trade agreement between the two countries.
Key, who is accompanied by a power-packed delegation that includes senior ministers, officials and top corporate honchos, was received at the Indira Gandhi International Airport by Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed.

He heads to Agra to see the Taj Mahal Monday. On Tuesday, Key sits down for delegation-level talks with Manmohan Singh in the evening where a slew of agreements related to trade and cultural exchanges are expected to be signed.

On top of the agenda will be an FTA for which the two sides have already held four rounds of negotiations. India is looking to harness New Zealand`s expertise in the agro- processing and cold chain sectors. Expanding educational ties, too, will be in focus as New Zealand hosts nearly 12,000 Indian students who bring in over $1 billion a year in tuition fees and living expenses.

It will be Bollywood time for Key and his team in Mumbai Wednesday. Key is expected to visit a film studio in Mumbai and seek greater business ties between Bollywood and his country which boasts of a world-class film industry and some of the most breathtakingly beautiful and diverse landscapes in the world.
