Allahabad: Senior Congress leader Parvez Hashmi on Saturday said the next general elections would throw up a clear verdict in favour of Rahul Gandhi.

"The upcoming Lok Sabha polls will throw up a clear verdict in favour of party vice-president Rahul Gandhi. He has tremendous appeal among youth and poor masses," Hashmi told reporters here.

(Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra) Modi and his ilk will be no match to him," the Congress Secretary said.

On the proposed visit of Modi to the ongoing Maha Kumbh where a number of seers close to the Sangh Parivar are expected to throw their weight behind Modi`s candidature for Prime Ministership, Hashmi said "he must visit Kumbh and take a holy dip in the Sangam."

"However, both Modi and the BJP ought to remember that they will not be forgiven for their wrongdoings so easily by the people," the Rajya Sabha MP said.

Earlier, Hashmi met Shankaracharya of Dwarka Peeth Swami Swaroopananda Saraswati at his camp in the Kumbh ground and is understood to have discussed the possible visit of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi who are expected to attend the congregation between February five and nine.
