New Delhi: Addressing a massive rally at the Ramlila ground in Delhi on Sunday, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar reiterated his demand for special status for the state.

Lauding the contributions of the people of Bihar in the development of the country and their participation in the freedom struggle, Nitish said, “We are not begging for special status. It is our right.” He asked, “Don't we have the right to progress?”

Saying that Bihar is not against other states being given special status, Nitish stressed that with a little help from the Centre, Bihar can too become a developed state.

The Bihar CM blamed the lack of industries and unfavourable economic policies as being the main factor for the migration of Biharis to other states.

Pointing out that the Bihar has not been treated fairly, Nitish said, “Today’s rally has shown the strength of Biharis who have turned out in huge numbers to demand their right,” Nitish said.

Highlighting the fact that Biharis in the national capital were living in a poor state, he said that people of his state used to face humiliation earlier but now the situation had changed completely. “The reason for the change in perception is because Bihar is now on the path of progress,” Nitish emphasised.

"Either you give it (special status) now or after 2014, you will have to give it. You will have to accept the demand in circumstances that will be there after 2014. Only one, who feels about the backward, the backward states will occupy the seat of power in Delhi (Centre)," Kumar said.

Nitish launched a clear counter to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's development plank saying, "We will leave everyone behind and move ahead with development. And we will present a model before the world. These days development model is being discussed. This model is what takes along everyone together. This is the real development model of India."

“The powerful people of Delhi must take notice of the growing strength of Biharis,” he added.

He also said, “When you become a good Bihari than you can become a good Indian.” Adding, "If policies change, the benefit will not accrue only to Bihar but other backward states as well."

Talking about the state of Bihar, Nitish said, "If you see the per capita income, we are just a little more than one-third of national per capita income and have the lowest per capita income. Roads, railways, and other infrastructure are below average. The per capita expenditure for development is half of national average ... all human development indices are lower."

"If we get special status, we can also become one of the developed states. We have been told that we do not meet all qualifications for getting special status. Change the criteria then," he said.

The JD(U) leader had reached Delhi yesterday to address the Adhikar rally.

Nitish kumar could have ask all his supporter to come with begging bowl for show of strengh. Bihar is not only one poor state in India they are poor because their leaders are corrupt including Nitish kumar because when his minister or MLA ARE FOUND GUILTY OF SOME TYPE CORRUPTION, WHAT HE DOES- HE GIVE TICKETS THEIR WIFE OR RELATIVES. WHAT YOU ECPECT FROM A POLITICIAN WHO SUPPORT CORRUPT POLITICIAN IN BIHAR. He should go to Mody, he may help him out.

Nitish seems bothered about the development of a state that he feels has been discriminated against. If its a fact Bihar should be compensated or any other state for that matter. Good to see politicians picking development over petty politics.

Just Because CM`s predecessar had ruined the state and the public had kept on voting him back to power, One can`t ask for a special status.

from independence Bihar and UP getting major support from centre because they have major share in almost all Govt even after so many favors including Lalu`s bargain in Railway If bihar still backward and Nitish kumar is in power for mare than 5 years and as he climed that he has a so called VIKAS MODEL he still beg for special status he is another Lalu who have not done anything good for Bihar. More over state like GUjarat, Maharashtra or punjab or Karnataka they have progress dispite of center`s anti policy against this state because most of the time this states have Non congress govt. and why this states should sacrifice for the corruption of so called backward states. I think the political system should be changed. It should be United states of Indialike USA and will have presidet instead of PM where all states will have their own teritory and Internal Law. The national security that is Army, Judiciary system Currency should be controlled by centre and for example If any person from Maharashtra want settal in Tamilnadu He has to get Visa this will make healthy compition among states.

Why suddenly the Majority of the Regional leaders are eager/aspire to move to the National Stage.? Modi, for whom Gujarat and Gujarati were Every thing, is in Hurry to desert Gujarat and Gujarati - Why.? Now Nitish has rushed to the Capital to capture it in 2014. Why don`t the realise there are already so many National Leaders in the capital. And there is NO Vacancy as yet. It seems as if there is a race to Capture the Power. Absolute Power to CAPTURE THE TREASURY, CENTRAL TREASURY.

When the centre allocates the share of resources to all states on annual basis, thru planning commission, allocation is not biased, as every chief minister would like to get highest outlay. Lalu yadav was part of centre and also ruled the state, when he indeed got lion`s shre of outlay. Further, un-divided Bihar was mineral rich state. It did not develop, due to highest level of corruption, backwardness in education and lawlessness. If the resorces were already given, then why special status. Its like failed child being given special marks to passout the exam. Punish these corrput politicials and stop corruption first and then show the development.. With 10 or 15 Mps if he is dreaming to become PM, then he is day dreaming.

There looks a commonality between the regional leaders. Nitish wants to rule India from Patna, Mamata wants to rule India from Kolkata and Modi wants to rule India from the capital of GUJARAT.

Nitish Kumar is indeed naive. While Modi openly puts out facts and figures to show how Gujarat has prospered using its natural resources the Nitish Kumar is going around with a begging bowl asking for special alms. Nothing could be more ludicrous and an open invitation to the Congress thugs to digest Bihar into another scam bowl. Nitish needs his head examined. Cms are foe solving problems not for going around with a begging bowl. Your population is the greatest asset that is if you know how to motivate them. That is the difference between Gujarat and Bihar - te inablity to turn adversity to advantage. Shame on Nitish

Sonia Gandhi 4th richest politician in the worldAs India is approaching towards a general election in less than a year, the leader of ruling Indian National Congress has been listed as world`s fourth richest politician with a total wealth of over US$ 18 billion, which is invested in real estate, telecommunication and various business projects around the world, while significant portion of the amount is also deposited in secret bank accounts. Italian born Indian politician Sonia Gandhi alias Antonia Maino was already in the controversy centering one of the biggest bribe scandals in India –2G Spectrum wherefrom influential politicians looted billions of dollars through corruption and fraud. Business Insider has a short feature, ``Meet the 23 Richest Politicians in the World``, and Dr Manmohan Singh`s boss, Ms Antonia Maino aka Sonia Gandhi is listed as the 4th richest with wealth estimated between US$ 2-19 billion. This must have given Kapil Sibal and Digvijaya Singh the conniptions.
