New Delhi: The road transport and highways
ministry on Wednesday said not a single kilometre of road has been
constructed in the Naxal-hit areas in the past one year even
though the projects were approved in February last year.
"No length of roads under this scheme has been
completed during the last three years as the scheme was
approved in February 2009 and thereafter sanction of detailed
cost estimates submitted by the respective states started from
October 2009," minister of state for road transport and
highways RPN Singh told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.
Replying to a question whether the project covering
development of 1,202km national highways and 4,362km state
roads in the Left-wing extremist-affected areas is being
implemented, he said "yes, it is under implementation."
As per the details available, the scheme was approved
for 26 districts spanning eight states including 458 km NHs
and state highways in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh,
where 86 CRPF jawans were killed recently in a Naxal attack.
Under the scheme, only Rs 4.72 crore was spent during
2009-10 and that too in Maharashtra only, Singh said.
