Pak concern over Taliban; Cong push for NCTC

Congress on Wednesday utilzed Pakistani establishment`s apprehension of Taliban attacks in India to push for NCTC.

New Delhi: Congress on Wednesday utilzed Pakistani establishment`s apprehension of Taliban attacks in India to push for NCTC, an issue on which the Centre has faced stiff opposition from several non-Congress Chief Ministers and ally Trinamool Congress.

"NCTC is the need of the hour. A consensus should be built by the government with all Chief Ministers and other parties so that such a tough law could be enacted, which can check terrorism," party spokesperson Rashid Alvi told reporters here.

He was responding to questions on reports that Pakistan Home Minister Rehman Malik fears Taliban attacks in India and has offered help by his country in this regard.

Maintaining that zero tolerance towards terror is the committment of the government, he said that for the purpose an instrument like NCTC was necessary.

He said Indian government is always prepared to meet such challenges.
The Congress spokesperson also welcomed the RBI`s announcement of cut in interest rates for banks for the first time in three years to revive sagging growth.

"It`s a very significant step of the government and proves our concern towards common people and those from the lower middle class," Alvi said.
