PM apologises for remark on Vajpayee Zeenews Bureau

New Delhi: With the BJP continuing to disrupt the Parliament over Congress MP Beni Prasad Verma’s derogatory remark on Vajpayee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh took the lead Wednesday and offered an apology on behalf of the government.

Addressing the Lok Sabha, the PM, who has yesterday night arrived from Russia, said, “I was not present in the house (yesterday), but I have learnt that some very undesirable development took place.”

“A member of our ruling coalition said something that was inappropriate; with regard to Vajpayee those words where used. I on behalf of our government apologise that those words should not have been used,” the PM said.

Beni Prasad Verma had invited the wrath of the saffron brigade –during the Liberhan debate – for using slang Bhojpuri word 'neech' to refer to Vajpayee as someone of ‘low standing’.

Verma, Member of Parliament from Gonda in UP, had also poked fun at Leader of the Opposition LK Advani, contending that he had no business to debate about the birthplace of Lord Ram. ''Does he know where he was born? He was scared of Muslims, so he came running to India,’’ Verma said.

BJP and allies had created pandemonium in the house and sought an apology from the Congress MP for ''using an unparliamentary language against former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Advani.’’

But Verma refused to apologise and had only expressed regret for his remarks, if it had hurt anybody’s sentiments.

However, understanding the political implications of the issue, the PM took the lead today and apologised on behalf of the government – a move, that is sure to have come as a surprise even to the BJP.

I dont understand what these guys at parliment do. Do they have so much free time to do research on where who is born and who ran away with who and all.
Hey come on man!! you have been elected to work for us. We know how to bring you to seat and we know how to kick your butts also. Do your duty. you have no rights to comment about anybody. We have elected you though you guys dont have qualification and knowledge. Instead of improving India, you guys are bringing disgrace to it. Learn to respect each other or just get lost into grave!!!

When Parlamentarians do not know how to make their point, they do not deserve to be in the parliament. It is about time India set some requirements to run for the office. Nothing would be achieved by these corrupt, uneducated and rude MPs. India deserves better!

This could be a planned political attack by Congress. Tough it sound very cheap from Honorable Verma. That is always expected from someone coming from that area of UP. What I would like to add to this is the bullshit shown here could be a planned decision from Sonia ,who was a cheap waitress in herself. So, mentality might still carry.Otherwise, how could such a third category person like Mr. Verma could have ever dared to even speak infront of others in such a manner.

With a quick apology from the Hon..Prime Minister of the Country, BJP looks like a child crying for a toy and subsequently getting one. They should learn to ignore such petty things and not allow themselves to disrupt the Parliament. This will certainly lift their stature in Parliament.

I would like to tell that Vajpayee was the person who made a Shining India in the international scenario. He was the person who showed the world that India could survive with respect without the international aid. He was the person who made the relationship with the neighbor countries normal. If such a person is being scolded as ``neech`` in a platform like parliament this is a matter of shame not only for Mr BP Verma not only for the congress party but for the whole nation. If BJP demands the apology from Mr. BP Verma then there is nothing wrong. Will Mr. BP Verma dare to remark the same to Rajiv Gandhi for 1984 anti-sikh riot who had told that ``if a big tree falls it is natural that the earth will be shaken a little`` this little shake had destroyed thousands of people. While Babri Masjid demolition was a bloodless activity.
