Policies needed to ensure water even during calamities: Sangma

Union Minister of State for Rural Development Agatha Sangma on Wednesday expressed the need of policies that could ensure availability of water for every sector even during calamities.

New Delhi: Favouring decentralisation of the
water resources management programme, Union Minister of State
for Rural Development Agatha Sangma on Wednesday expressed the need
of policies that could ensure availability of water for every
sector even during calamities.

Sangma also said unless sanitation of individuals and
environment is achieved, drinking water security can not be
ensured.
The minister was addressing a session on `Sustainable
Community Centric Practices for Water Management` at a two-day
national workshop here.

Sangma also chaired the session on water management at
the workshop -- Role of Gyan Choupals in Spreading Climate
Literacy and in Building Sustainable Food and Water Security
system -- which began here at National Academy of Agricultural
Sciences today.

"Addressing the session, Sangma stressed the need to
decentralise the management of water resources...she also
highlighted the need to have policies that ensure availability
of water demand for every sector seven during calamities," the
ministry said in a statement.
She suggested for involving local community in water
management programmes "so that the benefits reach out to
the people".

The workshop will discuss various issues related to
sustained food and water security systems with the involvement
of the people.
