President Pratibha Patil calls for ending gender discrimination

Pune: President Pratibha Patil on Thursday asked
people to work towards ending gender discrimination to boost
women empowerment in the country.

"Since women account for half the human resources in the
country, it is imperative to endeavour for their education and
all round development to take the nation forward," Patil said
while speaking at the centenary celebrations of `Pune
Vidyarthi Griha` here.

She exhorted the educational institutions to nurture and
protect traditional values in the society.

Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and former Lok Sabha
speaker and Shiv Sena leader Manohar Joshi were also present
on the occasion.
