The Railways have stepped up vigil at major stations in the national capital and intensified anti-sabotage checks in trains.

New Delhi: In the wake of a high
intensity sophisticated bomb being recovered from a
Delhi-bound train in Uttar Pradesh, the Railways have stepped
up vigil at major stations in the national capital and
intensified anti-sabotage checks in trains.

All the staff at major stations in the Capital have
been put on alert while anti-sabotage checks at stations and
in trains have been intensified, said a source in the Northern
Railway.

The high-intensity sophisticated bomb was recovered
from the sleeper coach of Delhi-bound Manikpur-Hazrat
Nizamuddin Express at Mahoba railway station in Uttar Pradesh
late last night, triggering panic among passengers.

The source said both GRP and RPF personnel have been
asked to keep a close watch on the crowd for any suspicious
movement at the stations. The dog squad has also been asked to
keep a strict vigil.

Besides, CCTV monitoring team at the stations have
been asked to strengthen their monitoring mechanism, he said.

Similar steps have been initiated by the North-Central
Railway under whose jurisdiction this incident unfolded.

An spokesperson of NCR said that thanks to the timely
spotting of the device, a major disaster was averted. He said
the zone has also been witness to a couple of hoax calls about
bombs being planted in trains in the recent past.

Earlier in the day, talking to reporters in Lucknow,
Uttar Pradesh Principal Secretary (Home) Kunwar Fateh Bahadur
and Director General of Police Karamveer Singh had said that a
PAC bomb disposal squad recovered the bomb, which weighed
around 1.5 kg to 2 kg, and exploded it in an open area this
morning.

The DGP said the bomb was prepared in a manner that it
could not be opened.

On being asked whether it was the handiwork of
naxalites or terrorists, the DGP said the police were not
suspecting anybody as of now but investigating the case.
