New Delhi: In a candid admission about
infighting in the BJP after the Lok Sabha poll debacle, its
Parliamentary Party Chairman L K Advani today said
shortcomings in the party were not due to its political
adversaries but due to problems within the organisation.
There have been shortcomings in the party and these have
not been because of our (political) adversaries but due to
problems within," Advani said.
"Everybody, except maybe some of our political
adversaries, feel bad about this. Some of them even come and
tell us that something should be done. Even some of our
adversaries say this sometimes," he added.
Advani, who was under pressure from the RS S and a faction
within the BJP to step down after the party`s dismal show
in the Lok Sabha polls, made this significant observation for
the first time since he quit the post of Leader of Opposition
in the Lower House.
He was speaking at a program organised to screen a short
movie made on him made by his daughter Pratibha.
Advani, however, hoped the festival of Makar Sankranti
today would bring a new Sankranti - rejuvenation - in BJP.
The senior leader, known for his rath yatras, said his
political journey began at the age of 14 when he joined the
RSS. Advani said at the time of independence he had pledged to
work tirelessly to put India among the most developed nations
and he would continue his political yatra till this was
achieved.
