Smriti Irani launches academic project for children

Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani on Tuesday launched an ambitious project which seeks to inculcate early reading habits, writing and mathematics skill among children.

New Delhi: Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani on Tuesday launched an ambitious project which seeks to inculcate early reading habits, writing and mathematics skill among children.

Irani rolled out the programme 'Padhe Bharat Badhe Bharat' at the inauguration of a meet of State Education Secretaries, which is aimed at enabling children to become motivated, independent readers and writers with comprehension possessing and lasting skills to achieve learning levels appropriate to the class of study.

It also aims at making children understand the reasoning in the domains of number measurement and shapes and make them independent in problem solving by way of numeracy and spatial understanding skills.

As per the programme, there will be 200 school working days and 800 instructional hours (in 200 days) in an academic year with a break up of 500 instructional hours for language and 300 hours for early mathematics.

The programme also aims at minimum 75 percent attendance by children and also provide them an opportunity to develop self confidence and a positive self-image through experiences of acknowledgment.
